U18AAA, U15AAA AND U16AAA Head Coach Announcements

Apr. 25, 2020

U18AAA Northstars Head Coach

Ryan Aasman has been announced as our new head coach for the U18AAA team for the 2020-21 season.

Full coaching staff for the U18AAA team will be released in the coming weeks.

Ryan Aasman's Bio

A few words from our new GM Jesse Hale:

"I am very excited about bringing Ryan Aasman into the Calgary Northstars association as the new U18AAA Head Coach. Aasman will bring an identity that fits the mould that CNHA is trying to achieve. His experience as a player will relate well to our athletes as these players will be aspiring to be what he was at their age. The most attractive attributes that led to selecting Ryan are his focus on development with a players first approach, his work ethic which will bleed into our players and team identity as well as his attention to detail. Having worked with Ryan previously, I am confident our players will progress as a team as well as individuals and enjoy coming to the rink daily. As a player they will know their coach will put the player's needs at the forefront and work tirelessly helping each player/person reach their optimal potential and their goals.  This is a huge step forward in the Calgary Northstars Association having Aasman behind the bench of our U18AAA program, I am looking forward to watching the progression first hand."

U15AAA Sabres Head Coach

Mike Langen has been announced as our new head coach for the U15AAA Sabres for the 2020-21 season.

Mike Langen's Bio

Our GM, Jesse Hale has this to say:

"Bringing Mike on board will be a huge asset for our association. Langen prides himself on creating a culture and having players buy into that while creating habits necessary for long term success. He has coached at the U18AAA level for a number of years and understands what it takes and the skills players must possess to be an impact player at that level. His focus at the U15AAA level will be to instill those necessary habits and skills into our team to support athletes advancing to that next stage while developing throughout the year. The CNHA understands the importance of this age group in terms of development windows of opportunity and with Mike leading this group I am confident with his personality and previous experience he will set up our players to have success throughout the season and prepare them for that next level."

U16AAA Blazers Head Coach

Marcus Cheng will be our head coach for the U16AAA Blazers for the 2020-21 season.

Marcus Cheng's Bio

Jesse's thoughts on Marcus:

"Marcus Cheng is a newcomer to the Northstars Association as a coach but is an alumni as a player and a very welcome addition. When I took this position as General Manager, Marcus was on the top of my list to try and recruit to coach within our association. He is a true up and comer as a coach. His experience, the way he challenges himself and players to progress will be an asset for years to come."

U16AAA Canucks Head Coach

We are happy to announce that we will have Doug Wright return as our head coach for the U16AAA Canucks for the 2020-21 season.

Doug Wright's Bio

A few words from our GM:

"It was an easy decision to bring Doug Wright back at the U16AAA level. He is an open minded, hardworking coach and a great person. He coaches to the modern game allowing players to grow in this crucial year for their development."
